MONADNOCK REGION, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Communities across the Monadnock Region are preparing to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States during a series of Memorial Day weekend parades, ceremonies, and tributes. While occasional rain is possible during the holiday weekend, local observances are expected to move forward as planned, offering residents an opportunity to gather in remembrance and reflection.

Several towns will host traditional parades featuring veterans, community groups, first responders, and local organizations, while others will hold ceremonies at monuments, cemeteries, and memorial sites dedicated to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Sunday, May 24

Marlborough will begin its Memorial Day observance with a ceremony at noon at Pine Grove Cemetery on Granite Street. The town’s annual parade will step off at 2 p.m., traveling down Terrace Street before concluding at Marlborough School, where veterans and community members will continue the day’s remembrance activities.

Monday, May 25

Keene will hold its Memorial Day parade beginning at 10 a.m. on Gilbo Avenue. The procession will make its way to the veterans’ monument near the Keene Recreation Center on Washington Street, where a memorial ceremony is expected to begin at approximately 11 a.m.

Hinsdale’s observance will also start at 10 a.m. with a brief service at Pine Grove Cemetery. Participants will then march along Depot Street and Main Street before concluding at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post on Main Street, where a ceremony will be held.

In Swanzey, residents will gather at the former Cutler School for a 2 p.m. parade. Marchers will proceed to the Community Church of West Swanzey, where a memorial service will take place at the monument honoring the nation’s fallen service members.

Winchester will hold its annual Memorial Day parade beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the town memorial in the center of town.

Dublin’s parade will assemble at 11:15 a.m. in the Yankee Publishing parking lot. Participants will stop at the town cemetery for a brief service before continuing to the flagpole in the town center, where the community’s Memorial Day ceremony will be held.

In Jaffrey, the day of remembrance begins early. Members of the John Humiston American Legion Post 11 will honor guards and troops beginning at 7:30 a.m., while members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5613 will visit cemeteries throughout town. The community parade will begin at 10:45 a.m. on Blake Street and will include stops at the Civil War Memorial, Korean-Vietnam Memorial Park, and the Buddy Monument.

Marlow’s Memorial Day parade is scheduled to begin at noon at the town’s War Memorial.

In Rindge, the Recreation Department will host a community luncheon on the town common from noon to 1 p.m. The Memorial Day parade will follow at 1 p.m.

Troy will begin its parade at 10:30 a.m. from Troy Elementary School. Marchers will travel along School Street to the town common, where a ceremony honoring fallen veterans will take place.

Saturday, May 30

The observances continue the following weekend in Rindge, where the annual Memorial Day service at Cathedral of the Pines is scheduled for 10 a.m. Organizers say this year’s program will include a special dedication in memory of Don E. Nelson.

Memorial Day, observed each year on the last Monday in May, serves as the nation’s day of remembrance for military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Communities throughout the Monadnock Region have long marked the occasion with ceremonies, parades, and tributes designed to preserve the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
