WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A three-unit residential building in Winchester was heavily damaged and ultimately declared a total loss after a fire broke out Tuesday evening, drawing firefighters from multiple communities in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Emergency crews were dispatched to 66 Richmond Road shortly after 6:15 p.m. following reports of a fire on a deck or porch area of the building. Police officers arriving first found flames visible from the structure, prompting an immediate escalation of the response.
Additional alarms were sounded as firefighters worked to contain the growing blaze. Mutual-aid crews from Hinsdale, Richmond and Swanzey, along with departments from Northfield and Warwick, Mass., assisted at the scene. Warwick firefighters provided station coverage in Winchester during the incident, while Winchester Ambulance personnel remained on standby.
Two adults and an infant who were inside the building when the fire started were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
Smoke continued to pour from the structure well into the evening as crews battled the fire. Visible damage could be seen across the front portion of the building, and firefighters remained on scene for several hours extinguishing hot spots and conducting overhaul operations.
The fire was brought under control later in the evening. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the blaze, which is believed to have originated in the front porch area.
The incident remains under investigation, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
