KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Keene residents can expect another busy week of construction as crews continue work on several road, bridge and infrastructure projects throughout the city.
One of the most noticeable changes began Monday in Central Square, where Liberty Utilities is installing a new gas main along the west side of the square. Parking spaces between Winter and West streets will be closed while work is underway each day, and traffic patterns may be adjusted within the construction zone before returning to normal at the end of the workday.
Road reconstruction also continues on Marlboro Street, where Bazin Brothers will install granite curbing and work on drainage structures between Main Street and Eastern Avenue. Drivers should anticipate alternating one-way traffic or shifted travel lanes through the active work area.
Construction remains underway on Key Road, where Park Construction is installing a new box culvert in the parking lot at 68 Key Road. Motorists may encounter alternating one-way traffic or detours as the project continues through the week.
George Street also remains closed as New England Infrastructure continues replacing the bridge. Crews are expected to install utilities on the west side of the bridge this week. The closure and detour are expected to remain in place for approximately four months while the bridge replacement project is completed.
On Jennison Street, BC Construction will continue installing granite curbing, pouring sidewalks and completing cleanup work. Alternating one-way traffic will be in place while crews are working.
Meanwhile, construction of the Transportation Heritage Trail will continue near Eastern Avenue. Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance is performing grading and installing gravel and loam along the trail corridor. The city does not expect the work to affect traffic.
Work is also progressing at the City Hall parking garage, where Structural Preservation Systems will spend the week preparing the deck for a new protective traffic membrane. The garage is scheduled to close for about one week beginning Monday, July 20, to allow the membrane to be installed. Although much of the work will take place overnight, the garage will remain closed during the day while the project is completed.
City highway crews are also planning sidewalk paving projects, weather permitting. Reservoir Street is scheduled for Tuesday, while Brooks Street is expected to be paved on Wednesday. Sidewalks will be temporarily closed during construction, with traffic shifted around the work areas as needed.
Elsewhere, Public Works crews will carry out roadside mowing, tree trimming and brush clearing throughout Ward 2 as part of the city’s Ward Optimization Weeks program. Drivers may encounter temporary lane shifts while maintenance is underway.
At the Public Works facility on Marlboro Street, Bazin Brothers Trucking continues reconstructing the parking lot. Visitor parking has been temporarily relocated to the lot next to Bartholomew Court, with the project expected to wrap up by the end of the month, weather permitting.
City officials are asking motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to slow down in work zones, follow posted traffic controls and expect occasional delays throughout the week.
