BRATTLEBORO, VT. (MyKeeneNow.com) Brattleboro police are alerting residents to the expected release of a 67-year-old convicted sex offender who is considered at high risk of reoffending and is expected to live in the area.

The Brattleboro Police Department said Friday, Oct. 16, that Brian Tinker is scheduled to be released from Southern State Correctional Facility on or about Saturday, Oct. 17.

According to police, Tinker has been classified as a high-risk offender because of his potential to reoffend. Authorities also reported that he did not comply with treatment requirements while incarcerated.

Tinker’s criminal convictions include sexual assault involving a vulnerable adult and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under age 16, police said.

Following his release, Tinker will be required to comply with Vermont’s sex offender registry requirements. However, police emphasized that he will no longer be under supervision and is not currently wanted or subject to arrest for any new offenses.

The department said the public notification is intended to inform the community of a potential risk to public safety.

Police cautioned residents against using registry information to threaten, harass or harm Tinker or anyone else. Such actions could result in criminal prosecution.

Additional information will be available through the Vermont Department of Corrections and the Vermont Sex Offender Registry. Police noted that Tinker’s information will not appear on the registry website until his release date.
