HANCOCK, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A Jaffrey man was taken into custody Sunday morning after an overnight standoff at a Hancock residence that began when he fled from a Dublin police officer, according to the Peterborough Police Department.
Police said the incident began around 8:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, when a Dublin officer was pursuing a vehicle that traveled from Dublin into Hancock. The vehicle eventually turned onto Old Hancock Road and stopped in the driveway of a private residence.
The driver, identified by police as 40-year-old Andrew Waycotte of Jaffrey, allegedly refused commands to surrender and went inside the residence, where he barricaded himself.
Peterborough police responded and took command of the scene. Officers established a perimeter around the property while efforts were made to communicate with Waycotte and bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion.
The Keene Police Tactical Team assisted Peterborough officers with the response and helped establish communication with Waycotte.
After remaining inside the residence for several hours, Waycotte exited and surrendered to police at approximately 6:42 a.m. Sunday. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Police said there was no threat to the general public during the incident.
Waycotte faces two felony charges, one of burglary and another of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon; and two misdemeanors, disobeying an officer and resisting arrest.
He is being held on preventative detention and was scheduled to be arraigned today in Jaffrey District Court.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Peterborough Fire & Rescue, Antrim Police, Dublin Police, the Keene Police Tactical Team, Hillsborough Police, New Hampshire State Police, Greenfield Police, Jaffrey Police, Marlborough Police and Hancock Fire & Rescue.
