HINSDALE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – Police say the suspect in an incident in Hinsdale Wednesday morning has been taken into custody.

In an update at 12:05 Wednesday afternoon New Hampshire State Police said that the subject was in custody and a police presence remained in the area while troopers and local officers continued their investigation.

Later, at about 12:30 NHSP said all roads had reopened.

Police are actively searching for an armed suspect in the area of Route 119 in Hinsdale. Route 119 has been closed Brattleboro Road and Mountain Road while the search is underway. Authorities are advising residents and visitors to remain cautious, and more information will be shared as it becomes available.

According to reports, Route 119 was briefly blocked near George’s Field behind the sporting goods store Runnings, where local police departments, including Hinsdale, Brattleboro and Keene as well as N.H. State Police, are involved in what is described as an “unknown incident” according to a social media post from N.H. State Police.

The Hinsdale School District confirmed they were notified of the police activity. In response, the school remained open with students and staff kept indoors as a precautionary measure.

In a written statement from superintendent David Ryan, he said “We believe there continues to be no danger to our students and staff,” as of 10 a.m.
