TOWNSHEND, VT (MyKeeneNow) A Townshend man is in custody following a fatal crash on Vermont Route 30 that killed a 24-year-old pedestrian earlier this month.
Vermont State Police identified the driver as 34-year-old Daniel Carr, who was allegedly operating a 2009 GMC Sierra when it struck Shane Whittaker of Townshend just after 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 9, according to a new release. Authorities say Carr left the scene but was later apprehended.
Carr faces multiple felony charges, including grossly negligent operation and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He is also charged with reckless endangerment, false information to police, driving with a criminally-suspended license, failure to comply with ignition interlock driver’s license restrictions, and violating conditions of release.
Carr was processed at the Westminster State Police Barracks and is being held at Southern State Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court today.
In a related development, 26-year-old Jamee Shields has been charged with providing false Information to police during the investigation. Shields has also been cited to appear in court at the same time and location.
