The findings were announced Wednesday after autopsies were completed on Donna Fairbanks, 70, and her husband, Chandler Fairbanks, 72, who were discovered dead inside their Hurricane Road residence during a welfare check on June 16.

According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Donna Fairbanks died from gunshot wounds to the head and chest. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Chandler Fairbanks died from a gunshot wound to the head, and his death was ruled a suicide.

Investigators with the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office and the Keene Police Department said evidence gathered during the investigation indicates Chandler Fairbanks shot and killed his wife inside the home before turning the gun on himself.

The couple’s bodies were found after Keene police officers responded to the residence at approximately 11:10 a.m. Tuesday to check on their welfare. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shootings. Officials said no further information is expected to be released at this time.

The determination concludes the investigation that began Tuesday when the deaths were initially described as suspicious and potentially the result of a murder-suicide.
