KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A fire outside a multifamily residence downtown Thursday morning was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported, according to the Keene Fire Department.

Fire crews were dispatched shortly after 11 a.m. to 31 Summer St. after reports of a fire involving a container located alongside the building. Deputy Fire Chief Gregory Seymour said the blaze was extinguished before it could spread significantly, though firefighters found limited fire damage inside an attached garage area.

Residents were inside the building when the fire was discovered but were able to leave safely while emergency crews responded. One occupant reported noticing smoke entering his apartment and seeing flames outside the structure before evacuating.

Firefighters remained at the scene for a short time after the blaze was knocked down, soaking hot spots and checking for any hidden fire extension. Residents waited outside as crews completed their work in temperatures that climbed into the 80s.

The building contains multiple residential units. The cause of the fire has not yet been released, and the incident remains under investigation.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
