PETERBOROUGH, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A 79-year-old Peterborough woman was rescued Tuesday afternoon after suffering multiple injuries in a fall while hiking alone on Mt. Monadnock’s Dublin Trail, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
Fish and Game reported that conservation officers were notified around 1:13 p.m. on Oct. 7 by New Hampshire State Police Dispatch about the incident near Old Troy Road in Dublin. The hiker, identified as Mary Cornog, had been hiking solo when she fell and was unable to continue without assistance.
Emergency responders from the Peterborough Ambulance, Dublin Fire Department, Jaffrey Fire Department and Dublin Police Chief joined conservation officers at the scene. After receiving initial medical care, Cornog was able to walk with assistance back to the trailhead, arriving around 2:10 p.m. She was then transported by Peterborough Fire and Rescue to Monadnock Community Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Fish and Game officials said Cornog was properly prepared for a day hike and had many years of experience hiking Mt. Monadnock.
The department reminded outdoor enthusiasts to consider purchasing a Hike Safe card, which helps fund search and rescue operations. More information and hiking safety tips can be found at hikesafe.com.
