RINDGE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A crash on Route 119 sent three people to area hospitals Sunday evening after a car left the roadway and struck a tree near 145 Route 119, according to officials.
The incident was reported just before 7:40 p.m. Rindge’s ambulance crews were already tied up on another call, prompting multiple mutual-aid departments to respond alongside several off-duty Rindge firefighters and EMTs.
When first responders from Fitzwilliam-Troy Ambulance and the Jaffrey Fire Department arrived, they found a single vehicle off the road with significant damage. All three occupants had gotten out before crews reached them, though one person had been thrown from the vehicle.
Because of the seriousness of the injuries, a medical helicopter from UMass Memorial LifeFlight was initially requested but could not fly due to weather. All three patients were transported by ground ambulances. Two were taken to a Level I trauma center in Worcester with serious but non–life-threatening injuries, while the third was brought to a hospital in Leominster with minor injuries.
Route 119 was closed for about half an hour as emergency personnel worked the scene.
Rindge Fire & Rescue was assisted by crews from Jaffrey, Fitzwilliam, Winchendon (Mass.), Ashburnham (Mass.), Ashby (Mass.), and the Rindge Police Department. A Peterborough Fire engine was dispatched to set up a landing zone for the helicopter before the flight was canceled.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Rindge police.
