CONCORD, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) — Law enforcement agencies across New Hampshire are preparing for a statewide enforcement effort aimed at catching impaired drivers and improving road safety.
The New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police says more than 63 law enforcement agencies will take part in a special enforcement initiative on the evening of March 17, 2026, St. Patrick’s Day. During the effort, officers from local, county, and state departments will conduct dedicated patrols focused on identifying and apprehending drivers operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Officials say the initiative will span all four corners of the state and is designed to increase police visibility on the roadways while deterring dangerous driving behaviors.
Locally, the Marlborough Police Department confirmed that it is participating.
“Please encourage your friends and family to make good decisions when it comes to impaired driving,” the department said in a Facebook post. “You are the best line of defense to keep our community safe.”
Organizers say these patrols are not supported by grant funding. Instead, the initiative was organized by agency leaders who volunteered resources to focus on impaired driving enforcement.
The effort comes following recommendations from the Governor’s Highway Task Force and is being conducted in cooperation with the New Hampshire Highway Safety Commission.
Police leaders say the March 17 patrols are part of a broader commitment to roadway safety. Similar enforcement initiatives are expected to take place periodically throughout the year in an effort to reduce impaired driving and promote safer travel across the state.
Officials are reminding motorists to plan ahead if they intend to drink, including using a designated driver or arranging alternative transportation.
