KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneN0w) Residents in Keene may notice temporary changes in water clarity after the city’s Public Works Department brought West Street Well #1 online Thursday.

Officials said turning a municipal well on or off can alter the direction of water flow within the distribution system, which may stir up naturally occurring sediment and result in discolored water for a short time.

Customers who experience discoloration are advised to run cold water from a single tap for about 10 minutes. If the water does not clear, they should wait 30 minutes and try again. If the issue persists, residents are encouraged to contact Public Works.

The department also cautions residents not to dry laundry if discoloration occurs during washing, as it may stain fabrics. Those affected can contact or visit the Public Works office at 350 Marlboro St. for assistance and stain-removal products.

For questions or ongoing concerns, residents can call the department at 352-6550.
