JAFFREY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A Michigan man sustained potentially life-threatening injuries in a fall on Mt. Monadnock Monday.
New Hampshire Fish and Game says officers were notified about a hiker that had fallen on the White cross Trail around 11:50 Monday morning and was suffering from severe and potentially life-threatening injuries.
Samuel Gershowitz, 18, of Ann Arbor, MI was hiking for the first time with a family member when he fell, according to a news release. Conservation officers arrived at Gershowitz’s location around 1:00 pm where he was already in the care of Mountain Patrol Rangers and in stable condition.
Officers, along with members of the Upper-Valley Wilderness Response team (UVWRT), and Monadnock Park Staff were able to carry Gershowitz in a litter down the White Cross Trail and to the White Dot Trail, arriving at Monadnock State Park Headquarters around 3:30 that afternoon.
Gershowitz was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries. Fish and Game didn’t have an update on his condition.
The release notes Gershowitz and his hiking partner, who was not named, were well prepared for their hike.
