KEENE, N.H. – The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch and a Tornado Warning for much of the Monadnock Region Sunday afternoon.

Residents were advised to take shelter immediately in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Anyone who was outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle were advised to move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

A line of severe thunderstorms passed east through Keene as the Tornado Warning was posted at about 4:50 Sunday afternoon. As of 5:10 p.m. thousands of power outages were reported across the Monadnock Region, including nearly 3,000 in Swanzey, but that disappeared from the outage map a few minutes later. As of 5:15 about 272 outages were reported in Keene, more than 560 in Westmoreland, close to one thousand in Chesterfield, and others dotted around the region.

Another check of the Eversource Outage Map at 7:15 Sunday evening showed some customers had their power restored in the region, but more than 500 customers in Westmoreland are still in the dark

Some street flooding was reported in West Keene around 5:10 p.m., and trees and wires down on Base Hill Road.

The Tornado Warning has expired but a Tornado Watch remains in effect until 10:00 Sunday night.

Witnesses report seeing a funnel cloud in Dublin, but there have been no confirmed tornadoes. Area fire crews also responded to a reported possible lighting strike at the Colony Mill Apartments on West Street in Keene.
