KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A former executive director of a Keene-based mental health nonprofit has been indicted on federal charges of embezzling nearly $200,000 from the organization. Christine Allen, 50, of Marlborough, allegedly used her position at Monadnock Peer Support (MPS) to misappropriate funds for personal expenses over a period of two years, according to U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young.
Allen, who also goes by the names Christine Nowill and Christine Yardley, faces four counts of wire fraud. The charges stem from allegations that she exploited her access to MPS’s financial resources, including bank accounts and debit cards, to cover a range of personal purchases.
The indictment claims that between January 2021 and May 2023, Allen used nonprofit funds on Amazon orders and home renovations. These expenses reportedly included items like home and kitchen products, gaming and hockey equipment, a meat cleaver, and a food dehydrator.
Federal authorities launched an investigation into the alleged misappropriation, led by the FBI and IRS Criminal Investigations. If convicted, Allen could face up to 20 years in prison for each count of wire fraud, as well as a substantial financial penalty. Sentencing will ultimately be determined by a federal district judge, taking into account U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
Allen’s court appearance is expected at a later date.
