KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A new initiative, the Granite State Democracy Tour, is bringing experts and community members together this spring to discuss civics, political polarization, and the electoral process.

Organized by former Vermont election lawyer Eve Jacobs-Carnahan and civics educator Martha Madsen, in collaboration with the Coalition for Open Democracy, the tour aims to create informal spaces for conversations on democracy-related topics.

The tour builds on last year’s Knit Democracy Together project, which engaged citizens in discussions while crafting a knitted sculpture of the New Hampshire State House. The sculpture, made by participants across the state, will be displayed at each tour stop. Attendees will also have the opportunity to craft miniature figures to “populate” the State House replica.

Each stop will feature speakers from statewide civics organizations, university professors, and children’s book authors, with discussions on topics such as redistricting, primary elections, voting laws, and misinformation in politics. Local civic organizations will provide informational resources at the events.

The tour kicks off this Saturday March 29th at the Mason Library Archives at Keene State College from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. More details can be found at opendemocracynh.org.
