KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The City of Keene is alerting residents to several infrastructure projects scheduled this week, including road work, utility installations, and the start of its annual water main flushing program.
Beginning Thursday, April 9 at 8 a.m., contractor CM Minkler will pave Appel Way from the Court Street trail intersection to Wheelock Park. The trail will be closed during construction and is expected to reopen by the end of the business day Friday, April 10.
Drivers may also encounter delays in other parts of the city. On April 8 and 9, Allain Site Work will install water services within the Cornwell Drive right-of-way near 440 Winchester Street. Traffic on Cornwell Drive will be reduced to alternating one-way travel at times, though Winchester Street will remain unaffected.
Additional work is scheduled for Friday, April 10, at 310 Marlboro St., where MME Construction will install water services. Water will be temporarily shut off between properties numbered 259 and 310, with service expected to be restored by 2 p.m. Traffic in the area will also be limited to alternating one-way flow during construction.
Meanwhile, the city’s annual water main flushing program is set to begin overnight on Sunday, April 12 at 10 p.m. Crews will work between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. over the next three to four weeks to clean mineral buildup from water mains and ensure hydrants and valves remain operational for emergencies.
Residents may notice temporary discoloration in their water during flushing. City officials recommend running cold water for several minutes to clear the lines if this occurs.
Officials advise motorists to expect delays in work zones and consider alternate routes when possible. Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Keene Public Works Department at 352-6550.
